LeBron Twitter Saga: The Final Chapter

Tonight at 9 pm (EDT), NBA superstar LeBron James will announce what has cluttered news and social media for weeks: where he’ll play next season. At RowFeeder, we’ve been tracking Twitter and Facebook mentions of LeBron for the past week and a half, collecting over 500,000 posts on the story. As the rumors swirl, Twitter and Facebook activity spikes. In addition, both the NBA and LeBron have taken steps to drive attention to the story on Twitter. The NBA sponsored a trending topic for LeBron James on 7/5 and LeBron finally joined Twitter on 7/6, instantly gaining 150,000 followers in less than seven hours. We updated our analysis of the Twitter buzz for LeBron and projection for his choice.

Searching within Twitter mentions of “LeBron” for team and city names for the top contenders, showed the Knicks in the lead with the Heat and Cavs close behind. Since our last analysis, The Knicks and Cavs have both gained ground relative to the field. The trend in our Twitter-based projection aligns with what most media experts are now suggesting.
