@BronxZoosCobra Escapes to Twitter

The Bronx Zoo Cobra (@BronxZoosCobra) is heating up on Twitter. The account has been adding followers like crazy and getting attention in major news outlets and dozens of blogs. Looking at some Twitter analytics shows just how quickly the Cobra has slithered into internet stardom.

The Cobra is bringing in upwards of 2,000 tweets per hour consistently during daylight hours. While this isn’t at Charlie Sheen levels, these numbers are impressive given how quickly he has become a household name. The trend typically wanes at night while the Cobra sleeps, but then picks up during the day as he heads out to roam the streets of NY.

As is the case with many of these popular fictional accounts, they tend to attract highly influential tweeps including media folks and celebrities. Both Ellen DeGeneres and Martha Stewart are among the most influential that showed their support and concern for the cobra.

The possibility of the Bronx Zoo cobra traveling across the country are near impossible, but there are still quite a few people concerned about the snake making it across state boundaries.

While zookeepers are still working around the clock to find the missing cobra, others are working just as hard trying to identify the voice behind the Twitter account.
