#AskObama Twitter Town Hall Data

Damon’s recent tweet pretty much sums it up – Twitter sure has come a long way! This morning we witnessed the first ever Twitter Town Hall. President Obama went on a live stream and answered questions directly from the Twitterverse. Wondering how well this worked to drive engagement? Let’s take a look at some analysis pulled from Simply Measured:

There were over 70,000 tweets during the President’s Twitter town hall today from 11am to 12:10pm PDT. The conversation held steady throughout the event at ~1,000 tweets per minute.

Jobs, taxes, and debt seemed to be the biggest topics. Marijuana legalization also saw considerable attention. This chart shows use of key topics within the hash-tag stream.

The new @townhall account took off leading up to the event. There was a big jump in followers in the hours before the live steam started. Then the audience continued to grow steadily throughout the event.

Tweets were concentrated in big cities, with Washington DC leading the way by a wide margin.

Great analysis of the first presidential Twitter Town Hall — and pretty impressive use of Simply Measured! (Although was the use of “hash-tag” and MaryJane intentional?)

The image of the FDR era is rather positive for many. The facts are not so clear. In many ways the FDR actions did not help the recovery and the USA was no better off for a long period of time. The Bush & Obama changes stemmed the problem a lot quicker this time around.

The true recovery in the USA from the Great Depression was more fundamentally triggered by WWII. FDR had a small or less direct role in that economic solution. His hand was forced rather than designed by a policy or vision.
