We’re on the front lines of the good and the bad, as we watch brand-to-customer interactions unfold in front of our very eyes. It doesn’t take long until you’ve assembled a dossier on your brand. Not much gets past a brand’s audience, which means nothing gets by a social media manager.
What little-known-facts does your social media manager know about your brand?
#1) How Sophisticated Your Audience Is
Nobody knows your audience better than a social media manager. He or she interacts with your brand’s ride-or-die’s everyday. Is your audience quick-witted? Do they appreciate humor or dry facts? Is your audience sophisticated…or more on the simple side?
A good social media manager knows these audience characteristics innately, which makes him or her a great resource for planning marketing campaigns, even ones outside the purview of social. Don’t sleep on this in-house font of knowledge.
#2) How People Talk About Your Brand (And Your Competitors)
Social media managers might not have the best insight into who your sales team is losing deals to…but they do know who holds the power of influence on social.
It’s absolutely possible that who you think of as your biggest competitor is not the brand you’re competing with for share of voice on social.
#3) What Content Your Audience Loves (And Hates)
When your content team produces a blog post, they might have one idea of how it’s going to perform and you might have another.
Social media managers have an intuitive (and hopefully data-backed) sense of how topics will resonate with your community. Perhaps the topic that your brand doubles down on is actually not the audience’s favorite. These are secrets that are not best kept to yourself! Spread the knowledge and watch your results improve!
Regardless of which industry your brand is in, your job as a social media professional is to be in the know. Whether you’re attending conferences or Twitter chats, keeping tabs on what’s buzzing in your industry is an essential part of the job description. Other parts of your brand’s organization might not know what’s going to be the hottest thing in 2016… but you do.
Do the other people at your company know your biggest fans by name? Probably not. But you do! You know them by name AND by handle. Knowing who your top advocates and fans are is invaluable. Pass their names onto other people in your marketing department and see if you can team up on content, conferences, testimonials, etc.
Social media managers, don’t keep this kind of information to yourselves! These five secrets can open up a whole new world of opportunity for your marketing team.
