Over the last 6 years, we’ve delivered social analytics through one very specific modality: reports.
Today we’re adding an exciting and fundamentally different modality to our platform: the Social Analytics API.
Reports offer a nicely packaged, simple, and fast way to measure and understand performance across social channels. The Analytics API offers limitless possibilities for analyzing your social data, just the way you want.
Why Build an Analytics API?
This release is the result of a massive investment in our platform over the last year. It involved bringing together assets and expertise from acquisitions, rebuilding the engine powering Simply Measured, and countless hours. So why go to all this trouble?
After serving over 2,813,727 reports to 33,563 unique people over the years, we’ve discovered two key customer “asks” that reports can’t solve:
- “I want to customize social metrics and visualizations specific for my business.”
- “I want to Integrate social analytics into my broader marketing dashboards and systems.”
You asked these questions, and we listened. Our shiny new social analytics API is designed specifically to solve these problems for marketers (as opposed to developers or data scientists). We also believe that these problems are becoming more important as social marketing gets more sophisticated and breaks out of its silo. We saw this as an opportunity to help you jump ahead of the curve.
As a data geek myself, I’ve fallen in love with our API. I’ve seen first-hand the limitless possibilities for analysis, but I’m a little biased, so check out what one of our beta customers said:
“Simply Measured’s new API raises the bar for the entire social analytics market. What they’ve done by unifying data across social channels enables us to ask complex questions of both structured and unstructured data and get instant answers, which fundamentally elevates the level and types of actionable insights we’re able to offer our clients.” – David Lawson, CEO of NewSci.
What makes this Analytics API special?
There are three key reasons that our API stands out, and they all boil down to making your life easier.
1. Standardized Cross-Channel View
Anyone who has tried to build an internal dashboard that queries dozens of different sources can understand the pain involved with data aggregation. This is particularly harsh in the social space, where every social outlet is unique and things constantly change. The Simply Measured API gives you one platform to collect, enrich, and query all the data you need. But we didn’t stop at aggregation; we also added a layer of standardization, so you can have consistency in the metrics and ratios you use across all channels.
2. Flexible Interface
In designing this API, we didn’t want to just create an ability to export unstructured data. Our goal was to develop something that would change how social marketers were able to do business, so we spent time with our customers and listened to their needs. It quickly became clear that a flexible interface is critical to enabling all kinds of use cases. Our API lets you ask questions and get fast answers. It’s not just a data feed. It’s an interface to explore your data for answers — any source, any dimension, any metric–and it enables you to layer in the customized intelligence you need.
Finally, our API stands out with our strategy to build integrations with the best of breed Business Intelligence and visualization tools. These integrations allow you to connect with your Simply Measured analytics inside of your tool of choice with nothing more than a couple clicks.
We’ve started with a Tableau web connector that doesn’t require you to write a single line of code — just add the connector and authentication, and then drop countless emojis to us via Twitter because you’re so overcome with joy :).
Here’s what our partners at Tableau had to say about this exciting integration for our shared customers:
“Social data may come from a number of different sources and can be difficult to understand without an easy way to integrate and analyze it. The Simply Measured API will help our mutual customers seamlessly access and start analyzing their social data, along with data from other relevant sources, from right inside Tableau. It will make it easy to build comprehensive marketing dashboards, and derive new insight from social media.” – Dan Kogan, Director of Product Marketing at Tableau.
We’ve started by rolling out a Tableau integration, and you can expect more very soon!
