#SXSW 2012 Social Media Showdown

Another #SXSW has come and gone! And some interesting theories are circulating about the 2012 winners: from Huffington Post claiming big success (aka winners) are a thing of the past, to CNN stating “this year’s South by Southwest Interactive may be remembered just as much for what happened outside the halls… as what happened in them.”

But over here at Simply Measured, we believe winners are determined by evaluating the social data. So during the event, we tracked the #sxsw hashtag to determine who won the #SXSW 2012 Showdown. And the results are in!

The complete results can be found here.

There was a 60% increase in total Tweet volume from 2011 to 2012 — a good indication that the event continues to grow in popularity.

41% of the interactive content being tweeted was photos — making it the most popular content of #SXSW.

FourSquare led the way amongst popular sharing apps, edging out Instagram and lapping YouTube.

75% of the chatter around social discovery apps was for Highlight — giving it the title of most talked about social discovery app.

77% of #SXSW Tweets sent were via iOS — making it the number 1 mobile platform, for the second year in a row.
