456 Congressional Twitter Profiles Analyzed with Simply Measured
We love big datasets. So when our partners at Edelman came up with the idea to study Twitter usage in Congress, we were beyond excited. Edelman chose Simply Measured because of our unique ability to analyze hundreds of social media profiles in one place along with our flexible reporting. We’ve worked with many big enterprises that have 100s of profiles, but this was the first time we saw our analytics tools applied to the political space.
After tracking 456 Twitter profiles for 112 days, Edelman released the Capitol Tweets study below. There is a treasure trove of detailed analysis, but here are a few interesting points that caught our attention:
- While the House has more Twitter handles (367 vs. 89), the Senate has more engagement (6,359 vs. 2,581)
- Members between the ages of 70 – 79 have greater engagement than any other age group
- Republicans are more frequently talking about specific legislation with their Tweets than Democrats
- The West is the most engaging region (4,015 Total Engagement)
