Instagram Direct is Revealed: Michael Kors & GAP Jump on Board
Last week, Instagram teased a mysterious event, at which we all knew, there would be a big announcement. Plenty of theories have been circulating the web, but this morning Instagram put rumors to rest by announcing Instagram Direct. Instagram Direct allows users to send private text, video, and photos to up to 15 friends.
The feature has already made its way onto both the iOS and Android platforms. Instagram Direct now enables users to have private conversations around the filtered photos. CEO and Founder, Kevin Systrom, states, “Communication is not about photography necessarily, if we were about photography we’re built into cameras, but we’re not, we’re built into phones.”
Earlier this week, Twitter announced that you could include photos in your direct messages. Facebook and Snapchat are well engrained in the photo sharing space. So, where does Instagram fit in now? Hard to say. However, brands are clearly psyched for Instagram’s new feature. GAP and Michael Kors have already jumped on the opportunity to market via Instagram Direct.
Will this new update set Instagram apart from other social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook or Snapchat? It’s too soon to tell but we’re excited to see how this arms race plays out.
